Sugar Cane and Timber Transport Systems
The core business logic for the timber and sugar cane transport industry is fairly standard in the capture of trip data.
I am proud of the fact that I redesigned and completely modified an existing sugar cane transport system more than 20 years ago and have been supporting it since. The transport of timber is very similar to cane in that the product needs to be picked up from a loading zone and delivered to one of several fixed destinations - usually mills. I have designed the systems mentioned below into generic products which can, in fact, be applied to any transport operation following those broad parameters.

CaneTick System - Capture and analysis of trips and revenue calculation
This system has been maturing for more than 20 years and is in active use. Manual capture is from two sources - a trip sheet filled in by the driver - and the weighbridge ticket printed at the mill. From these documents the date, times, ,loading zone, driver code, truck code, odo reading and weights are captured. A rate per ton per grower per zone per mill is kept in the database. From these factors the revenue and performance of the fleet against standards can be reported in manifold ways. The revenue reports are used to balance with the mill records or to directly bill the growers.
It is not possible in such a short summary to mention the inherent complexities of the system and the built-in safeguards, checks and balances to produce accurate reporting. The system has passed professional audits every year.

CargoHaul System - Capture and analysis of trips
The Cargohaul system grew out of the above system when more complexity was required. More times of arrival and departure are captured. The definition of the route to and from loading zones is provided, each route with its own standards. This system has been more focused on the timber haulage industry and there is no provision for rates and revenue at this stage. There is a much more sophisticated reporting and extract facility.
CargoTrack - Satellite captured tracking data matched to trips
This is an optional module which matches the captured trips to the actual truck movements recorded by the MixTelematics satellite system. This application uses the SDK (Software Developers Kit) provided by MixTelematics to access the database of trip events and trip stops per truck over the designated period. These stops and events are matched against the trip times captured manually and provides a number of validations of distance and time. In addition if the onboard weighing system Loadtech is installed, then an automatic recording of weights is matched against the manually captured data.
